What kind of Spurs are these?

I came across this YouTube video of a climber in Japan. He is using an interesting set of spurs I have never seen before. I think I have heard mention of these in other threads but this is the first time I have seen them.

Has anyone had experience with this type of spur? This climber does not appear to be doing any sort of take down but are these spurs any less damaging to the tree? I have been searching the web and so far have had no luck figuring out what he is using.

The spikes look cool, I like the ski binding style straps. What was the point of that climb? A really slow and odd ascent on spikes and ddrt (without a preset line) and then descend on a rope wrench and runner? I dont get it...

Very weird indeed, but that's Japan for ya. With all the fancy gear you think have a throw cude tucked away somewhere.

I was thinking the same thing wtf is going on here? It's single up, double down, I thought? Why make your life harder and switch it around? And what's up with wrench runner? Maybe he's a genius and knows something I don't know *shrug*
