What’s up this Wednesday evening

Waiting to gtfo of this dirty old plant, get a shower and get into some clean comfy clothes. Maybe a little whiskey and pizza. Probably walk the dogs with the girlfriend, then relax. Maybe smoke a bowl and watch Spongebob or play a video game. Maybe just turn in early. 530 am comes too soon.

Sharpening a mountain of saw chains so I can go cut the lawn at home. Looking forward to a little reading later tonight too, maybe watching the stars if the sky is clear.

Naked eye, binos or scope?

I like amateur astronomy. I have 6 telescopes that don't get enough use these days.
Generally just my naked, slightly fuzzy eyes. My grandfather has a nice telescope, but I don’t usually bother setting it up. I mostly watch for meteors and satellites, though I enjoy trying to remember the constellation and star names I used to know.

Whatcha reading @Reach ?

I’m almost done with Cell by Stephen King. Probably not his greatest, but a fun and creepy read.
I’ve never been a real big Stephen King fan. He’s an excellent writer, but not really my style. Tonight, I’m reading a memoir written by a former EMT, about his life running with an ambulance back in the early days of the ambulance services.

I recently read Run Silent, Run Deep by Edward L. Beach. It was an excellent read, probably one of the best books written on submarine warfare during the Second World War. The movie made from it is also good, but not as good as the book.

Getting home at a decent hour to spend some time with the kids. We're 2.5 weeks after a storm that caused a lot of tree failures and I've gotten home after my kids bed times more often than I care for. The major rush is over, but there are still downed trees all over town.

Waiting to gtfo of this dirty old plant,
Read that as ‘waiting to gtf off this dirty old planet’ lol

I made a batch of eggplant parmesan that was insanely large, had a nice dinner party. And vegetable stock, and harvested all the garden basil and froze some pesto. Busy day in the kitchen.

Fixin to stay up late if I can. Apparently the northern lights are suppose to be visible as far south as the Washington/oregon boarder. I saw the moon about 11am near the horizon (probably set around 12 pm-1 ish. Meaning if I get my ass to a clear northern exposure I might get to see them.. or I might just pass out..

Northern lights are so damn cool.
I haven’t seen them.. every once in a while (like a couple of times every few years they are potentially visible here, but then there’s the clouds and the light pollution. Apparently this might be a big one a g3 storm (whatever that means), so that and it’s a clear summer night with minimal smoke haze it just might be a thing beyond the faintest slight green glow on the horizon.
