09 at Lake Castaic... That was my first comp, we had an amazing time. It was so much fun to be able to pitch a tent and camp at the lake. Ashlee and I were called over by Sal at dinner time, he made sure we had plenty of food and drink, there was no being shy around that man. He sure made both of us feel at home. Telling stories and having great times.
Of course the morning of the comp, I stumble out of my tent to the bathroom, and super sal is the only guy up, stretching on rope, and practicing his locks. That's Sal for ya.
I had no one to go with when it came time to footlocke, Sal volunteered to go against me, I felt good about that. It was no contest, he hit that bell and cheered me on to get to the top.
Every year since then, we would talk about Sal before the comp, I would look for him, just to get a hug, or knuckles, he made us always feel so comfortable.
I got to see him in Portland, all smiles, all the time. Loved that guy.
