Watch Out Below!!!!

Hey doing some research on what everyone out there in the tree industry use when they are about to drop a branch, dead wood, wood, etc. to the ground to give the ground crew a heads up?

Should also announce if it is wood or stub or limb
The reason is to get them further clear in case of a bad bounce, deflection or catapult.
Also announce when ever you disconnect things from the harness.
Clear, Disconnect, Stub, That term is abhorrent over Tea Kettle,Big Lead etc.
Say it every time.

Clear/all clear.
Rope coming down, etc....

Also, incorporate hand signal and eye contact as it can be all to easy to get complacent with just call and response.

I tell my guys that "stand clear" means look up, assess the situation, get out of the way, and respond with "clear"

"Headache" means do not look up, immediately stop what you are doing and get the hell out of any potential drop zone. This is usually if a hanger is about to fall, or if I need to drop a piece quick, etc. The command and response is definitely the preferred option.

Don't forget the other end of the conversation. Ground personnel should call and wait for a response when entering the drop zone.

Absolutely want some back-and-forth going...no assumptions!

Hand signals are a nice backup form of communication.

"Stand clear" / "All clear"

Eye contact and a thumbs up or eye contact and a head nod exchanged between cutter and roper just before the critical moment.

Climber also calls "clear here" when he has finished dropping stuff or when it's OK to proceed with lowering a piece.

"Headache" is for when something falls unexpectedly and means to run to safety without looking up.

"Coming under" for groundies to ask permission to enter DZ and wait for climber's "All clear"
