Viking/Puma?

You did bring up a good point though, they add a lot of confusion into a trade that already has enough. Nomenclature is very important, and when you tell someone that Lava is tachyon, and PI is bluemoon they get a confused look in there eye because all they know is from a glossy catalog. Lets work to fix this.

We're all entitled to opinions, and I respect yours. But for the record;

Several years ago Yale approached me to market a new rope construction they wanted to release (yet un-named) and I had been looking for a camouflage pattern to serve ...well, people like me frankly. Poison Ivy came to me in the car home from a climbing event. Upon announcing the idea to colleagues I discovered the salesmen hated it. I knew right then it was the right choice. Almost 2 years later Yale unveiled another color option named Blue Moon.

About 2 years ago NER announced we could have any color we liked of their soon to be released "Tacyeon," the word meaning something to do with atoms or light particles or the whatever. I asked who thought of this name and Bill Shakespeare (NER rep) said he did and that folks at the plant were questioning if the name would get traction but we were welcomed to name it as we like. NER was the first to publicly market/announce the product with a magazine ad and we were close behind with a catalog release.

Personally speaking, I enjoy, almost as much as anything, bringing a little fun, flare or pazaz to the market we serve so passionately that sometimes "rides a little dry." In hindsight, i think it's served us well.

In other words, if you're looking to buy something from SherrillTree by the name of BucSqueeze, I suggest you shop us "by vendor."

So basically what you're saying is, when asked to be first vendor you named it as you saw fit (which is just because you were asked and it hadn't been named yet) but when you found out that NER ALREADY had a name picked out you decided that a cuter name would add your flair.

Was any consideration put toward the arbor community as far as possible confusion when confronted with the NER situation?

A true professional shouldn't buy gear based on name alone. You could have named the treemotion "rape whistle" and I would have bought the thing based on my fellow arborist opinion alone and it's high praise.

The company flair, fun and pizzazze has added a TON of confusion to the market (not just your company is doing this I know)

Again. When confronted with a yet to be named product which you probably are a lot, go nuts. But everyone should adhere to that name instead of flooding the market with 3 separate but equally crappy names.

Seeing that I'm never wrong feel free to ask me what they should be named. No charge either unless of course my likeness is used on the packaging, then my usual payment applies ( 500,000$ and one of marlin spikers infamous hair cuts, unless of course you want a clothed picture and that'll cost a cool million. And yes, it does cost more for a picture of me clothed)

Thanks for the input Tobe. I know you don't have to deal with this crap but you choose to which is both crazy and helpful

If people get confused by rope names or heritage how in the world can they keep cars straight?

At some time in my driving span...

Mercury=fancy Ford
GMC=fancy Chevrolet [Still holds true. I used to have an Astro van, now I drive a Safari=fancy !]
Porshe=fancy VW Hahahahhaa!

What I am NOT saying here is that any arbo products are second rate or inferior if they're renamed. It strikes me funny that there's any sort of fuss about custom branding. It happens in almost any product.

You've gotta be kidding me Tom.

So two wrongs make a right, right?

Here's an EASY OPPORTUNITY for everyone to get together and make it a lot easier and less confusing and you're comparing it to how cars are sold?

Also your car analogy is terrible. Mercury makes higher end fords, GMC is a high end Chevy. We are talking about THE SAME EXACT PRODUCT NAMED THREE DIFFERENT THINGS!

A manufacturers name should be kept as such. If you're asked to name a product yet to be released then have at it but why confuse the market with multiple names? How much fun will it be if a product is recalled and three different names have to be put out there for a recall? Thank god that abomination of a saddle, the cougar, only had one name!

Is it really that hard to keep the manufacture name? Are these stupid nick names really brining in more money or causin more headaches?

I agree with Tom.

Smart = Fancy Mercedes-Benz

I just wish I could get my own rope, in my own colors, that matched my eyes and wouldn't make my butt look big

oooh, marc... that was a missed opportunity by the treemagineers.

i am told as a working prototype it was known as the "demon-angel monkey harness"

I don't like the rebranding/renaming of products. I agree that it adds needless confusion, however, I think the responsibility of naming and enforcing the name lies more with the manufacturer instead of the vendor. If I'm selling a product and the manufacturer doesn't bother naming the product, doesn't care what I call it, or tells me to name it, I'm gonna try to give it a name that is gonna sell well regardless of what other vendors decide to call it. That's just smart business and I'm not gonna blame anyone for trying to make a buck. If I were selling John Deer manure spreaders and they didn't bother to name the model, you can bet the label would read, "Professional Grade Poo Slinger ver 2.0" and feature the likeness of an angry chimp with a fist full of feces.

All in all, I really like all the tree gear vendors I've done business with. Wesspur, Sherrill, Tree Stuff....they've all been very pleasant to deal with and any questions, comments, complaints have been dealt with quickly and professionally by a single person as opposed to directing my inquires to a call center in a foreign land with workers who have heavy accents and who are obviously not named "Michel" or "Scott".
