Using tablets while making estimates

Check out Zoho.com they have an entire host of crm apps etc. I use the invoice which I believe is $150/year. In the cloud and it also acts as a customer database with all records of estimates, invoices and payments. Integrates with Stripe which we use for online payments. Lots of times I'll write up a written proposal with a map which then becomes our work order for the crew to follow. Take a picture and attach it to the clients profile and the digital copy is there for good in the Cloud. Automated payment reminders for overdue accounts. Highly recommended for a simple and highly efficient setup.

What does your program do that's so above and beyond the competition. We use jobber for about $50 a month. Did I see right that the cheapest version of arbor gold is approx $1400 a month?

What is AG doing that is 28x better than other options on the market?

Hey Nick,
We are a virtual answering and admin services firm that works exclusively on Arborgold. If you use our service, we act as a full time employee for your business. Arborgold direct to you can be as little as $99 per month for a single user.
Here are Arborgold's prices: http://arborgold.com/price/. We (MVP) are your solution to rapid growth thru phone answering, administrative support and pipeline management. And the best part is, we cost far less than a full time employee which you would need to train, supply equipment to, and manage to be informed on tree industry specifics. We also don't need an office space or location as we work remotely on Arborgold using your database as our work platform, texting you changes in the field immediately from the platform with all of your customers changes or additional information at your fingertips.
I hope that clears it up for ya!

I use quickbooks online, so I can type up, and print to a mobile bluetooth printer, via my phone or tablet.

Most times I just use my phone. It is easier to hold and type while looking at the trees with the customer. It is very nice to be able to hand them a printed estimate before leaving.
like you, quickbooks online is my choice as well.

I just made the switch from quickbooks software to quickbooks online. What a nightmare. I only switched because I wanted to the mobile app again (which the software used to have). My wife does the books, and she about to shoot herself due to all the issues we have had.
I've been using it for 5-6 years I think it is a quality product.

Did you use the software before?

I've used the software since 2003. The online version is just completely different, and wasn't as seamless to switch to it as I thought it would be. We just been having a lot of issues recently, and have spent hours on the phone with quickbooks getting thing setup, switched, and errors. We are about ready to go back to the software...but then I loose mobile access again. I just don't understand why quickbooks took away this feature for the software.

It appears most people that start out with online like it, but most people that switch from the software get extremely frustrated

I was always on online user. It is a bit more limited I hear than the software version, but I have always enjoyed the cloud. I can literally look up a proposal or old sales receipt from 5 years ago while I am out in the field. Its been a blessing that I have always done things this way and never had an awkward transition to the online version. I also use quickbooks payroll to pay my employees. I think my monthly expenses for bookkeeping and payroll subscriptions is around $75.

They really are trying to get people to switch from software because they make less money with the software.

I do it. It's tedious typing on an iPad into Jobber. Get yourself a Bluetooth keyboard and you'll love life so much more.

We've noticed a higher rate of bid approval on quotes that are received moments after the consult.

do you know how much higher? We hand print on carbon copy and hand it to them as soon as we stop talking, if we get the godhead it gets typed into a work order

One way to eliminate the need to type an estimate on site while using Jobber is to have your service line items pre populated and unit pricing set. All of my services have the language pre written in them so all I have to type in is the name of the tree and the location. I then enter the number of units with the unit pricing being either a two or three person crew. Its pretty quick and works for 90 percent of what I bid on. More complex proposals I write in the office.

I too use Arborgold (been with them since 2002) and love the iPad use on the fly with Mobile Estimator. It saves a lot of time. I have a few areas in town where I grab a coffee and type out new estimates, schedule work and reply to emails. All in the comfort of my office, err.... truck.
The only problem is I work in seaside areas where the cell reception sucks; sometimes I have to drive an extra few miles to be productive on the app, but it's worth it. The app also works on my iPhone, which is handy for searching customers, phone numbers and seeing the daily work jobs, but it is better on an iPad.

Pete, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to hear that you're using the app on your phone. Due to the amount of information we're trying to give you (the estimator) we want all the real estate that a large screen provides. That being said, we wanted you give you the convenience of accessing your customer and job lists from a phone.
