Sorry if this is in the wrong category, but it was an 'awakening' once we realised what had happened.

We litrally had our back's turned for 2 minutes while weighing up a back yard job. The truck and chipper were left out on the road. When we returned minutes later, the chipper was gone. No sight nor sound. They must have been watching for a while, but were so fast and quiet when the time came.

The machine, a Timberwolf TW190 (2001), was stolen in Altrincham nr Manchester, at about 12.00 mid-day, but could turn up anywhere.

At the time of the theft Reg no. V857EAJ

Serial no. 20326000-1c

There is a reward for information leading to the recovery of this machine. If you know or hear anything please either email me, or contact its owner Mr Andrew Bennet on 07971 375 639. Thanks, and dont leave your own gear unattended, it's not worth it.

Dude! Those guys had it out with ya'all. No witnesses? Crazy bangtards.

I hope the police find them.

As a security measure, Andrew (the owner) always kept the machine padlocked to the towing bracket at all times. The machine recently had a service but the lock was misplaced by the mechanics. Andrew hadn't yet gotten round to replacing it, you know the rest. You can imagine how he feels now!

The most annoying thing is that the culprits, if they dont get caught, will sell it for only a fraction of what its worth. Its a tough lesson for anyone, with hindsight only adding to the torment.

Sorry to ear that, CC. I think we'll take a careful look at how we leave our chippers from now on. I too am a recent victim of theft. Someone stole my pick-up truck this past December: a 2005 Dodge quad cab 2500, 5.9L Cummins. I loved that truck. Haven't heard anything from the police...and my insurance is taking forever. I feel for anyone whose had something that expensive and dear stolen from them. I'm not feeling too kindly towards thieves lately...so if you ever find out who stole that chipper CC, I hope you do the right thing.

So it was small enough to simply unhook it, manhandle it around, re-hook it, and drive off?

We often leave our chippers parked in the street unhooked from the truck due to difficult parking situations. I have worried about someone hooking up and driving off. Hasn't happened yet, knock on wood.

They're made pretty light due to towing/weight restrictions, but its still a three man job to budge without setting down the jockey wheel. It must have literally taken seconds, without a sound.

980kg this one Steve, awkward to unhitch on this particular truck and was then manouvred and dragged uphill to the getaway vehicle, hence my 3 man theory.

Hey CC
Good luck with the recovery of the chipper. I know here in the states, most people never see "whatever" was taken again.
It does sound a little fishy with the work that was done, and the lock missing.

Sorry to hear about the lost chipper. Our chippers have pintle hooks, and on the chipper we carry a locking device. The lock is one round plate with a piece of flat bar welded to it and a hole for a padlock. The other plate has a hole in it so the flat bar passes through it. We put these through the ring when we have to leave the chipper.

That's bad news indeed. I'm over the hill from you in Huddersfield and in early december my friend had his timberwolf ch35/dh stolen from relatively secure premises. I'm away from home at the moment but I've emailed some of the guy's to keep a look out for it. Don't forget to keep an eye on Ebay!

I knew a fruitcake guy that stole a boat by getting in the trunk of a car and holding the hitch till they got far enough away,he met his maker.

Hope you get the chipper back,i dont leave anything unattended
