Trouble finding help?

Years ago I used to post job openings and would get emails by the dozens in just a day or 2. I now put postings up and only get a couple emails in a month. Do people just not want to work anymore or what? Also its not my company, I run good equipment, always have work and treat my employees very fair. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Our industry is like many labor intensive fields, hard on the employees and not too rewarding. Parents and schools don't promote trades in general as a good career choice. We also don't have a formal education program, like an apprenticeship, that directs kids to arboriculture. Just another thing the industry associations need to work on.

Talk to your local vocational schools, community colleges, state uni with a horticulture or forestry tech program.

I haven't had a worker last more than 2 weeks if he was under 40 years old. They tend to disappear and won't return calls but the 40 & 50 year olds show up on time, work all day and show up again the next day. It's been very hard to find long term employees and as was pointed out earlier we use equipment and don't have to slave on a job except on a very rare occasion.
