MARNE, MI -- A 39-year-old landscaping employee at Trees, Inc. was seriously injured Thursday morning when a tree he was cutting fell atop him, said Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Kevin Allman.
Robert Allen Pierce, of Fremont, was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, police said.
Pierce was working about 11 a.m. clearing tree branches from electricity transmission lines when a tree he was working near began to fall. He ran in attempt to avoid the falling tree, but fell on the slick, muddy ground. Pierce was able to free himself while a co-worker called 911, Allman said.
