Tree Saddle Opinions

I used to climb years ago for my father in the family business. I haven't climbed in 10 years, but have been working with my father again to help him out and was going to ease back into climbing again. I am in the market for a saddle. The only saddles I ever used were canvas butt strap saddles and now that I'm older I thought I would get something a little more comfortable and versatile. I'm looking at three saddles by Buckingham. I'v looked on Wesspur and Sherrill. The saddles below are on the Sherrill web site. Does anyone have any experience using these saddles or any negative opinions on one. I was also wondering if the friction adjusted buckles have any issues as opposed to the grommeted ones. Would love to hear from you, might help my decision making.

The butterfly by komet is only slightly more expensive if you'd like to try a bridge (it's real nice). I've never personally climbed in one but new tribe saddles look really comfortable and they're reasonably priced.

my foreman climbs in a treemaster deluxe with the fall protection harness and he loves it. me personally, a rope bridge is more versitile and gives more maneuverability. If you you do pick one of those, make sure you add the deluxe padding upgrade. i would not climb in that saddle without it.

First of all RS, welcome to the BUZZ. I'm sure you will find a lot of info here along with the occasional cat fight.

To answer your questions regarding saddle selection, the ones you have listed were the up and coming thing when you left the industry 10 years ago. The Master Deluxe was introduced around 2001 or 2002. I got one and really didn't like it much. I did opt for the grommet and tongue buckle though and it was ok and also opted for the large side D's. The Master Classic and Pinacle Classic are about 5 years or so older. That whole series was designed by Ken Palmer. If $$ is not really an issue, I would look at either the Tree Motion or the Ergovation and I would definitely look hard at something that will work SRT. THAT is the future of Arborculture and will keep you climbing for many years. Best of luck and climb safe!

The treemotion is arguably one of the best saddles on the market, but take a look at the petzl sequoia too, its a solid saddle and is versatile and lightweight. also look at treestuff.com to compare prices, you'll be glad you did! Saddles are an investment, so spend your money wisely, your body will thank you.

Since several of you mention it, I'll reply to the main thread. I had looked at a couple of floating bridges, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. Some, like the butterfly, rely on clevices and since that's not a closed connection it bothers me a bit. If I were to go the rope bridge route, I would probably prefer the rigging plate with the bridge tied off on each side with a fisherman's knot. I did find one saddle that was designed that way that was not too expensive ($$ is a little bit of an issue) and was on Treestuff, but I haven't seen that saddle anywhere else so I was somewhat skeptical. It's a Buckingham Rebellion, which looks like a Puma, but a little nicer.

Also, I was looking at the Traverse on Wesspur, but kept going back to the less expensive saddles. Any opinions on either of these?

you gotta buy for the work you do.
Spur on spar = Black Jack big beefy and padded
Hanging around = bosun srtyle like a Laxy Boy
G anywhere and free wheelin = big list
and so it goes on and on.
I have 4 harness and they are all good at different things
its alot like hammers =bll peen, carpenter, wreckin, finishin
Choose your weapon wisely!
Invest in one that will get the work done comfortabley.

Please Believe
me when I say this,I spent almost 8 years in POS harness before I decided to buy the best I could find.
One day In a good fitting harness is worth 100's of dollars.

ive got a tree motion an ergovation love them both if ur doing trimming tree motion rocks its light but if ur doing removels i like my ergovation its a lil more weight but it has more padding for the extra weight of gear but which ever saddle you choose try them out an say too your self can i work in this saddle all day an bosun seat is nice if ur a sitting climber an indivdual legs straps are nice if ur a stand up climber
