So, watching local news tonite and this story comes on. I see crane and chainsaws, so naturally I'm interested. However, there distinctly seems to be less house at the end of the story.
Discuss.

And click on , does insurance cover storm damage.
We didn't get near what th US NE got but the high winds kicked the crap out of our large oaks. I've got a 2 crane job in the morning, a career first.

Ok ok ok, if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, some times it's not a duck, hence the change in title.

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

I ve never seen that crane around Toronto wonder who it is,Good to hear your getting your machine out . Been some big trees down,we had 5 cranes out 2all night. Good luck tomorrow play safe!

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

I am pretty sure that Davey employees wear Green. I also have it on good authority that they are only required to wear safety vests when working within a distance of the road equal to one half that roads width and prohibited from wearing them while chipping. Lastly, of note Davey only has two color hard hats, white/yellow (denoting rank), no blue.

Just because you see a truck next door from the largest residential tree care division in the world, doesnt mean they were not working next door.

But hey what do I know, I'm just couch quarterbacking.

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

Im not seeing where Davey did more damage? What did I miss. The video I saw showed a crane removing a tree?

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

Allmark,

They dont show it happen, but it looks like the let part of the trunk fall through the house. You can see it if you watch carefully, I had the same reaction as you did at first. t

Its not my opinion that that was a Davey crew though.

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

Gotta have Grant as my 30 won't hold the whole tree. Normally, if I needed 1 machine to hold a climber as I pick, you guys would be my first call( I've told Dave that too).

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

In most other parts of the world save the US it is high-vis all the time as well as saw protection for the legs from shop to shop.

Going by uniform is unreliable, but your point is made.

This just in, turns out if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck it IS the largest residential tree care division in the world! Turns out they've been running around in a herd "making trees safe" after the storm (Latin for make a huge mess and run onto the next one). Homeowner told my boss that they wanted to charge $11k to take a 24 inch 30 ft tall corkscrew willow off his house. 3 picks with my 30 to from 70feet. Guess they have to pay for the 160 ton rental crane somehow.

That sounds like price gouging to me! Insurance coverage or FEMA money is not a license to rip people off. I would like to see a thorough discussion of reasonable vs. unreasonable pricing on various tree jobs. Yes, this is an expensive business to run, with workman's comp., taxes, ssi, heavy machinery, etc., but it can also be highly lucrative and mistakes like here are magically covered by insurance apparently.

Re: Davey does more damage than Sandy

It sure is easy to bad talk an operation when you know nothing about how its run. Davey has been a family then employee owned business since 1880. They have given more time, money, knowledge and effort back to the industry than anyone else you can name. They are headquartered here in Ohio and do tons to support the local communities.

Davey crews have been out all over the N.E Ohio area providing quality, affordable services to thousands of home and business owners cleaning up the wreckage.

While you guys are here complaining about everything Davey is doing everything they can to make things better for trimmers everywhere.

Any recollection as to what your company ended up charging the customer for the same service? Just curious.

@jmaher, Sorry if I neglected to mention that I was reviving an old thread with my post; this is not a recent discussion.

I've been hunting up some interesting threads from the past just because I find them interesting, and if it turns out the original posters are still around and active on the forum, I don't shy away from asking questions or making comments. If the original poster has not been seen in a couple of years, I do not bother, as there is probably no point in trying.

@BigWood is still around. The joke that his screen name represents just occurred to me. I can be a little slow sometimes.
