Tree Buzz Interactive Arb Cert Study Game

Q. How do you test a lightening protection system installed in a tree?

A. I dunno. It's a complete mystery to me, but I betcha an ohmmeter is involved.

No fair asking BCMA questions. Testing of the soil-ground connection is not complicated, but it's more common in Europe than NA. They have higher standards there, in general.

TJ, what domain are you most needing review in?

Therein lies the rub, Guy.
A similarly worded question was on the ISA Cert Arb exam I wrote in Sept. 2012. I wondered if the current ed. Study Guide covered this, because my old one doesn't!

You tend to remember those questions that stump you!

My areas of weakness will include but not limited to, diagnosis and plant disorders, plant health care, and tree nutrition and fertilization, as I have little experience in these areas. I reveiwed the lightning protection and learned that grounding resistance of 50 ohms or less is desirable, but the process of testing is not described and I am unfamiliar with testing practices.

TJ if you want to try these 2 tests in the links below, pm me the answers and I'll tell ya how great ya did. ;)

My questions 5+ years ago were typically harder than the current protocol, but they're still not too hard.

TJ,
Good luck on your test man. If I remember correctly, study your tree biology pretty hard. Leaf shapes, cambium, xylem, phloem...you know, that ol' chestnut.

Next time I see a study guide on TreeBay I'm getting it. I loaned mine to an employee. He never came back. Neither did the study guide.

Another weak spot I fore see having is in the urban forestry segment. I have the older version of the Arb. Cert. Study Guide that does not include this chapter. Is their any suggested reading that would correlate to that chapter in the study guide?

TJ, If you're not using the current green copy of the Study Guide, you're doing yourself a disservice. I'd strongly suggest getting the new edition, and work out of that. You'll find it a valuable reference book even after you test.

This is true. A CA was recruited to opine on an oak that fell and crushed a car and 2 people. His whole report hinged on info from the Guide. The opposing attorney tried but could not prove his opinion wrong.

Thanks for the advice but I'm going to try and make due with the old study guide and audio for now as I have already been studying them. Thanks for the articles Guy. I will print them and use them along with the study guide.

Studying the old guide will certainly enable you to receive a passing grade on the exam, and learn a lot in the process. The value of new information disseminated in the New Green Guide represents a poor investment for someone who already owns the Old Gold Guide. Identical twins devoting an equal amount of study in the OGG vs the NGG could yield theoretical, (but easily achievable) overall exam results of 82% vs 86%.

Treestuff.com has the ISA study exam book for sale at $89.95 and for another $10 you can get the combo of the book and audio cd.

Thanks for all your help Buzzers! I Received my results today via snail mail. I passed flying colors 86%. My weakest domain was tree protection and preservation (77%). Which I'll admitt I felt was a strong area for myself and did not spend much time with that chapter. All things considered I feel really great about the test and am glad I took the test at a convention and not computerized test facility.
