I recently lost my billfold, and decided to put a TrackR device in its replacment. Now my phone can locate my wallet, and my wallet can locate my phone. TrackR makes little quarter-sized locator discs that can be affixed to any item you'd like to be able to track, using an iPhone or android device.

I'm going to put them on my tool trailer, my truck, and on individual larger ticket tools. If something gets lost or stolen, this ought to greatly increase my chances of recovering the item.

I also thought that it'd be a great tool for a business owner to place on fleet vehicles and equipment to be able to easily confirm that your gear is making money for your company, instead of 2 blocks over, doing a side job.

Seems like an awfully inexpensive solution to lost/stolen/diverted tools and materials.

I've been delving in a little bit deeper, and it looks as though the most current iterations of the TrackR tags also have a separation alarm, so that if you were leaving a work area and hadn't taken a tagged tool, it would initiate a separation alarm on your phone.
