This is great!

Some are almost approaching true pollarding, I don't think that's what they are after though.

The crew that performed the work must step back, nod their collective heads, and relish a job well done.

Odd

May every septic tank and field in town be clogged with the roots of these topped trees!

Just goes to show, Some people ought not be allowed to have sharp tools!

Somebody in town has a 20 foot bucket truck, and is willing to make cuts at the top of its reach. Several of these pictures actually are on the brink of pollarding, with big swelling on the ends and obviously trimmed back yearly. Hard to believe so many in one town.

Now if they where Bradford Pears would it be ok?

Johnson City, TN is about the same as the Burnsville display. Beautiful mountains, appalachian trail close by, trout streams... and more topped trees then you can shake a watersprout at. I litterally cannot go 10 seconds driving down any road without seeing a top job.
It is the most destructive tree disease of all, the Homo sapien ignoramious blight.

I literally watched one homeowner completely dissasemble a decent looking Maple over the course of about two months with a 12' extention ladder and a pole saw. He would work on it for a day and then stash his ladder and saw up in the tree. A few days later he would torture it some more.

All that now remains is the trunk and about three or four main limbs. I'm sure he admires his work on a daily basis and pats himself on the back for a job well done. Is it mean of me to hope that some day it fall on his car?

These guys are artists. I'm sure they are the talk of the town. Can you imagine quoting a job and having the customer insist on practices of these guys? One more reason I don't have what it takes to be an owner I guess :)
