Teufelberger Escalator

I’m newer to srt. This summer I got a hank of Teufelberger escalator to run in my new rope runner. I’m wondering what you guys know about this rope. Im finding that this rope squishes in the rr to the point where it sometimes drags/gets sticky on ascent. I sometimes manually advance it a little bit till the bollards align to the flattened side and slides smooth. So is it normal for the rope to behave this way with the rr? I did milk the rope a good bit before it’s first use.

Bump.....I’d really appreciate some input or even some advice as to what rope the rope runner works best with.
Also if there are any rec climbers in north western Michigan that may want to hangout feel free to hit me up.

I’m using 11.7 Blue Moon 24 strand. I have a separate rope with a hitch system I use on pine trees removals because the sap just gums up my mechanical devices. I just got the spider jack 3 and am loving it.

I use kmIII with my rope runner. Super static. After having weight in it for awhile it turns into a cable. Very little squish. I've noticed that when ropes get squished after a decent the rope can twist on ascent and wedge the wrong way causing temporary hang up. I think you were hinting at that above.

Richard Mumford has done alot of experimenting with the Rope Runner. If you sit & listen to the entire videos i believe you will find common advantages & disadvantages pertaining to the Rope Runner & cordage selection.

Even if I'm mistaken about what was discussed, it's still pretty informative & a good watch. I think it's pretty common for the cordage to be pancaked in that device so selection is important.. not that you want to buy a new rope, but i think Teufelberger may have some newer lines that address it... However, in full transparency, I do not own a RR.

I bought a hank of Escalator in a TreeBay package, and have yet to fly it.

For what is it well-suited? Not well-suited?

I typically run a Hitch Hiker, Akimbo, Rope Wrench, SRT.

I believe it may have been intended to be an improvement on Kmiii, but T-berg's old ad mentions a design for access & foot locking. It has super low stretch & a triple fiber parallel core. What's interesting is according to Wesspur (which i take with grain of salt), it's hand splicable, but not sewn splicable.. I also can't find it on T-berg's site anymore, but i do see it showing up in recent mill end wholesales.

What type of cordage contruction resists pancaking the best? You'd think a parallel core with a tight cover would work good against that...

Op.. maybe your Escalator isn't broken in enough & still has some cover slack..? I know you mentioned something about milking.. just can't see it right now.

I’ve used it with a wrench, and as a lanyard. It’s stiffness makes it more likely to kick out of a foot ascender, but I’ll take that trade off for the feel. It is hard, unmoving, and light. On one particular job I was clearing suckers and raising the crowns of ten or so trees in a few hours, and escalator performed perfectly: pull through, ascend, descend, repeat. With all the ascending, it was nice to have almost zero rope movement. Besides the kickout, the only other negative is that sudden stops are jolting. If you end up hating it, I’m hoping to add an access line to my pruning setup...

I've heard complaints of sore joints from using Escalator as a work positioning line. Not enough give where or when it's needed.

Might make me a good access line for end-weight reductions on conifers. Leave that at the trunk, and take double SRT lines to the perimeter. Just looked at that kinda work today.

I wonder how it compared to HTP.
