Stripping the boot off of Palms

i think what he means by "boot" is the part of the frond that is still attatched to the stem after the frond has been cut off.

i just wack at em with a straight blade handsaw but that only works if they are loose to begin with. there are some palms with boots attatched very firmly and you almost don't need spikes to climb em, you can just step on the boots, though i wouldn't trust em the whole way up.

lots and lots of utility knife blades.
I used to peel lots. I would even peel with a knife in each hand. Double peeling? Anyone else do this?
My god I hate peeling! Dirtiest thing ever.

The key is to swap blades out often. Ill post pics of the knifes I use later as Im to lazy to go out to the truck now

I am referring to the old bases and skins that are left on the palm. I watched a tree company near Disneyland a few weeks ago strip about 20 palms about 50feet worth of boots off at the hotel. Big job. I wasn't able to see what they were cutting with.

Thanks for the tool recommendation. I will place it into my bag o tricks.
