Stihl 201T or Husqvarna T540 ????

We currently run all stihl 201's and we are constantly having issues , blown pistons and you name it, we own around 30 and have never tried going with another Brand but blowing 4 saws on the last job is getting costly .
Has anyone ran both saws and whats your opinion ?

oh yeah and before you ask the fuel is being properly mixed

:)Fire the climber or whoever the saw serial killer is. For what it's worth, the t540's emissions sticker has its compliance period rated at 125 hours vs the 201t's 300 hours. People claim that if the saw is going to meet the same emissions standards reliably for a given amount of time, that it will thereby perform reliably for that time. But with that said, you have 30 201's, pick up one husky.

How exactly do you burn up that many saws? Do you sharpen the chains, or just run them until something breaks?
I honestly don't get that.

But then, I don't get why people say the things they do about a MS-150, either. I just took two mulberry trees down with one. Didn't switch to a bigger saw until there was only four feet of the main trunks standing there. They weren't huge trees, about 16" dbh and 14" dbh and both were about 25' tall. But, really, you should just cut a tree down with one. If you think it will take longer, or be too much for the saw, or that it won't cut fast enough... you're going to be in for a big surprise.

If you break saws that fast, you might seriously think about switching to the Echo saws. You'd at least cut your saw expenses in half. Better yet, stop breaking saws. I have a pile of tophandle saws (no Huskies, though) and I've never broken any of them. Trashed a few chains, wore out a bar or two. I even have one from the '70s that is still running. Push button oiler, and all. The things last forever, if you treat 'em nice.

I went from a 201t to a 540 and then immediately back to the 201t. They all suck now. The 201t's just are a bit better imo. Every 4 to 6 months you gotta swap out the fuel solonoid when they start running to rich.

Mostly the 201tc. But I did have to take the 540 in for warranty work right out of the gates. I think they replaced the solonoid and the fuel line.

agreed.
my 201tc is working great tho.

balls better than any of the tired ole 200t's that i've been using lately.
which is a shame of course, but still.

201tc for the win

150 is the business

I own them both and each one has its own characteristics. I think the Husky has a better E Carb but there have been days I want to throw both of them through the chipper. Husky is more snappy and has very fast chain speed but will bog if you force the cut. Stihl has better torque and builds it power smoothly making it better for pretty pruning cuts. In actuality both saws will do whatever you ask of them and do it very well. I have a combination of over 20+ saws consisting of stihl, Husqvarna and echo. Its fun to try new equipment so I say try the Husky and see what you think.

I have a husky and wish I got a 201. But I fear I may have felt that way no matter which way I went.
I feel like I'm constantly at the wood pile cutting wood to tune it. Especially here in New England where it'll be two days of 45-55* in February, then be 8* when I get into work the next day and not go above 20*
Pretty much my only beef with the thing is I can't keep it idling between cuts until it's like really warmed up. Cuts like a beast tho.

That's not normal. Mine sees both drastic temperature and elevation change and I just start it like I always do. They are slow to warm up compared to the 201tc. High idle it for about 20 seconds and you should be good to go.
As far as the debate between the two saws, I feel like they are both good and both have a few drawbacks. To me the 540 is a bit more ergonomic and smoother to run. The 201 starts easier and has a bit more torque. They both cut fast and I like the electronic carbs on both but they can both be a bit finicky compared to older saws.
I chose the 540 because I have a few autotune huskies and am used to the starting/warm up procedure.

What are the issues of the saws blowing up? I honestly don't get that. Before ide buy another climber ide figure out the virus you have going threw your saws, because between 3 companies, mine and too others with over 100 saws, I work on, only a few a yr I rebuild and that's after they been killing it for yrs. mainly missing bolts chain brakes, handles, gas tanks etc. but your saying there blowing up left n right. Maybe you need to buy bigger saws sounds like you are giving them 201tc n a 660 with 36" bar ?
