Sterling HTP Static Rope - 9mm for Ddrt?

Im looking into using ddrt for hunting this season and I would like to use the lightest rope possible, I've seen good stuff about this rope but nothing about ddrt. Is there a good light weight rope for ddrt?

Welcome to the Buzz! The 9mm HTP gets pretty hard when used, sometimes called cabling. When flexed it returns to normal. It’s also harder to grip if used to advance up the tree. As Moss stated it doesn’t hold a knot due to stiffness, but that can be overcome by using a separate, more appropriate type of cord for the hitch, also wider choice of hitches.
Although unpopular with tree workers, dynamic rope comes in smaller diameters and are flexible to make end of the rope hitches if that is how you want to go.

DdRT, or moving rope is good as long as you’re close enough to the tree to use your while ascending. SRT is better if you are away from the tree, trying to climb the rope.
Both methods can be simple, or can be more complex if you’re climbing all day long.

I started with PMI EZ Bend 11mm and it held a 5/3 Blake’s in DdRT. As Brocky mentioned an eye to eye prusik was much better - I used a Sterling 8mm - but just the rope and a Blake’s (or double Blake for self tending) is a very simple and easy way to get up 20ft and out of sight of whatever you’re hunting. Good luck.

In terms of weight, if you're only shooting for only about 60 ft of rope, you are looking at 2.5 lbs for sterling 9mm htp. If you went up to a full 1/2" like teufelberger safety blue (13 mm), you wou be at about 3.8 lb for 60 ft. Honestly, the weight wouldn't be noticeable. But, I would rather ddrt on 13mm SB over the 9mm htp any day. The htp is tiny and gets stiff under load whereas the SB remains supple. Htp is favored more on the SRT side.
