Stein or Porta-wrap

If you were going to own one lowering device and the only 2 choices were the Stein 2000 or the Porta-wrap III, what would you choose?

Although I've never used it, I like the way the Stein is set up. If I was doing more removals, I would invest in the Stein.

I just started a few years ago and I went with the stein 1000. I've been very happy with it. Cost a little more but I think the design features are worth it.

I believe Stein just came out with a new lowering device that has a winch. heard it was at TCIA but I didn't get to stop at their booth due to see it. Tried searching for info on it but came up empty

Thanks. Ordered a Stein 2000 today, fit the price range. Saw the rig that Reg had at expo and will work toward that for the future.

Bought the little one last year and like it, RC-2000 will be next one I buy.

I'm looking forward to the rcw3000 release. If the price range in the video is correct, then it is just the piece of equipment I've been waiting for. I can't really justify a grcs as of yet.

For removals what are the advantages to the stein? How do they help from a productive point of view?
For those of us who either can't find good ground help, or can't always GET the good ground help, whatever makes things easier for them, makes them faster. Most of the time, that is the production bottleneck on site for me, not how fast I can rig the block and make my knote, but how fast they are ready to catch it. If I had awesome, steady, dependable groundies, a portawrap would probably be just as good. I know using a porty isn't rocket science, but it's worth mentioning. Also, there's the 4 fair leads, so you can adjust friction by 1/4 wraps instead of half wraps.

The top attachment point on the RC-1000 and 2000 are a major part of what makes them better than a porty. If you just have a single lead to lower or a couple of quick cuts you may not notice much difference. However if you have a day of rigging ahead of you, the time savings and improved workability of the Stein will become blatantly obvious.

We just did our first tree removal with our new Stein 2000 and I will say that it is a great piece of equipment. Just as DSMc said if you have a large tree with lots of rigging its a time saver and is also very user friendly. The top attachment point makes things simply great and if you have rookie groundies it makes teaching them even easier. Big thumbs up!
