WR with a hitch is a brilliant addition to SRT!

This WopeRench of which you speak sounds interesting, Tom. I have not heard of it yet. I must try it.

Its the Typonese version of the RW!

I am working on an Offset Ascending Rack, which I call the Hog Dog OAR. I hope to have a machinist make me a few very soon. It was my thought to have it used primarily for work on a doubled rope off a crane, where a hitch is burned up too easily, but it also works well as a descent device on a single line, and is midline attachable. I would like to make a video demonstration when I have one in hand.

For what it's worth I think the older Gri-gris work better with bigger lines.
Also the petzl Stop won't hockle the rope. That particular type of bobbin descender doesn't put the rope all the way around the bollard which would create twist. I've used it on double braid tree ropes and also static kernmantle rope without problems. I don't know that I would choose to carry it over the gri-gri for single line descents though. The stop is harder to use for a self belay if you need to go back up for some reason. Also the older gri-gris are cheaper.

Make sure that the rope diameter is compatible with whatever rope tool you choose. Don't use any that are too large or too small. Find the rope size on the shell of the descender.

the gri gri does sound enticing

but it wont work on 1/2 16 strands well. i have heard of guys using 1/2 and wearing the cams out pretty fast.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's because the GG is NOT made for plus 13mm rope.

Besides the wear it changes how the camming action works on the GG.

This is just the sort of thing that leads to accidents. We already work in conditions that are dangerous why do arborists seem driven to bring added risks into their work site?

Take the time to read specifications. I know that I'm a gear nerd...I read the instruction manual for every piece of gear that I buy...including biners that I've bought before.

ill be honest...no..not everything. ive allways been the type to figure things out on my own and do things my own way. i should start reading them. ive been too busy reading the TCIA Rigging in arboriculture book. im really studying this book hard to get better at using rigging and understanding its forces more.

anyway i think i decided on the Petzle Rig.

I think the WR is an asian knock-off. It's cheaper.

Please explain what you mean. Are you saying the Rope Wrench is a cheap knock-off of some Chinese device or that there is a cheap Chinese knock-off based on the Rope Wrench?

Wope Rench

Go back to my post ##299097, it was a Typonese mistake on my part :)

That's great, Tom! ... LOL ... You know it's gonna be really hard NOT to call it that from now on ...

im gonna step up to something better then my figure 8 for descending outta palms on SRT. what would you recommend for an easy midline attachable and have the ability to let go and not go sailing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Figure 8 with a back up prussic tied from your hitch cord. Already have it with nothing else to buy. You might be able to tie your hitch cord in a way to slightly counteract the twist imparted by the 8.

If you are setting the SRT line with a base tie-off and rope over the crown, you can set you standing end of the working side at the length to where it just reaches the ground with stretch, allowing the twists to unwind somewhat.

Or a "tuber style" belay/ rappel device such as an Black Diamond ATC or Trango Jaws, appropriately sized to your rope.

Neither. It was a joke. Tom was referring to the Rope Wrench as WR (instead of RW). Then I made up a story to be funny. I like the Rope Wrench (the little bit that I've used mine). There is, of course, no substitute (yet).
