Compressed-air launchers are sometimes legal in places where the combustion-powered launchers might not be. (remember a big shot slingshot is not legal everywhere)

Also, the pneumatic launchers can be calibrated for distance/power, just put a PSI guage on the air chamber.

Either way, they are fun!

I bet you could use a smaller bore that would fit a throw bag.

About 10 years ago a nerdy buddy of mine got into making spud cannons. He was a bit obsesive and the project got pretty crazy, he was playing with rifled barrels (made of pvc) the whole bit. Anyways he drove a small beatup toyota pickup and ended up with a unit that was mounted on a tripod on it. it had I believe a 6' long 6" wide air reservoir with the 3" rifled barrel running through it. I used to live on a reservoir so he came over one day to see how far it would shoot. The reservoir was 1/2 mile wide and he fired a spud clean across the other side (I was worried as I knew there were houses over there somewhere. We shot a 1/2 inch piece of plywood at 200 yards and it blasted clean through it.

Kicker is he worked in Washington DC and drove that truck to work with the "cannon" mounted. He got stopped a couple of times but he had read up on all of the laws and was doing nothing wrong in DC as it didnt use any combustables..........
