Spruces

I have a client the has some old gigantic Norway spruces…she wants me to give them a fall fertilizer….I was reading some stuff….but what do you guys think is best product?

My thought is to not fertilize them unless they have a specific need - proven by a lab test - and then I would only apply what the lab recommends.

For mature trees, I ask:
"what do these trees need now that they haven't had for the last XX decades? What changed to cause that to be a need where it wasn't 20 years ago?"

I agree with @Reach only fertilize for what is needed. A few catch phrases to go with that: "Don't guess. Soil test." "Prescription without diagnosis is malpractice."

Maybe a soil test is enough, maybe a tissue test is needed to get a full picture.
