Splicing

In response to the posting on beeline, ultra tech, and hrc splice, I have to say that i personally do not like to use the locking brummel due to leaving the core unprotected. I use the standard hollow braid splice w/ an 8" bury. The cover is set as in the fly by lock stiching and finished w/ heat shrink tubing. This ptrovides the protectve cover to the eye,: i dont know why that makes me feel better. The longer bury also makes the legs a little stiffer so that fair leading w/ micro pulley is effortless. Once weight is off, the hitch opens itself.
In reference to a double braid splice for ultra tech, DONT DO IT. it will blow apart. I have never tried it on the beeline though.
As far as the fly is concerned, my experience is that you need a 1/4" fid especially for the last bury. I found this to be a particularly interesting splice.
All that said, I am not against the brummel. I use it all the time on single and double carrier hollow braid lines like amsteel and tenex. These are what i splice for my whoopie slings w/ 3/4". However, i also put the eyes through cordura tube to protect the strands from direct contact w/ a tee-bar or carabiners.
disclaimer: i am not a certified splicing tech i just enjoy the art of splicing

Do you double the coat hanger all the way back or just put a loop in the end?
How do you attach the core to the hanger, is it tight or loose through the loop?

Doubled back and then i open up the loop end and stick the rope in there then i pinch it real tight with pliers. Be warned though doing this weakens the metal in the hanger and it could break unexpectededly, like in the middle of a bury. I also taper the bury /crossover a bit to make it easier.
