Splicers and Climbers...would you climb on this.

ATTN: Sawdust

Alright Sawdust. I took the time to talk to Stanley Longstaff today. The basic gist of the conversation was that my way is better, but your way is do-able. The rule for splicing, like Stanley reiterated for me is, "The fairer the splice, the stronger the splice." A lump in the middle of the rope makes it less fair. He also said, however, that, "If somebody else likes it the other way, that's fine."
So, getting back to the original question, we're both right, but it seems to me that I'm more right....not that it's important WHO is right, but rather, which concept is right.
Finally, if you do come to Wisconsin, I'll still buy you dinner!!!

Re: ATTN: Sawdust

By no means am I questioning Longstaff, but "my way" is Stanleys way and "your way" is not yours.
"The fairer the splice, the stronger?" When this "fairer" splice works it's way apart, is that fair to the victim when he falls? or fair when he needs to change ropes because he doesnt feel safe with the it?
Again, "my way" IS Stanleys way. I'm just pointing out my experience, and that is that NONE of the ropes I have spliced for me and others have had NO faults or mishaps. I cannot say that for the "fairer" splices that have reported "problems".
So if you feel like your MORE right than me, then claim your prize. Just learn from others mishaps and your experiences and move on.

I was in Wisc. at TCI in Nov. and dont plan on goin back there. Especially to eat, I had the runs for 2 days. I'll wait til you end up in Philly area.
Later
