Spliced eye on SRT line?

So now that I done drunk the treebuzz SRT RopeWrench working kool-aid, I have 2 climbing ropes with spliced eyes on the end. I never use the eyes any more except to sometimes pull the line into the tree with the throwline. I can only thread the RW onto the end with no eye on it of course, which makes me have to think about which way the rope goes up into the tree. I seems like it would be nicer to have no spliced eyes at all, but maybe I'm missing something.

My question: Am I missing out on some use of the spliced eye with SRT? Or should I cut off the end of one of the climbing lines and turn it into a lanyard? Hmmmm.
Thanks for thinking,
Pete

I have a spliced eye on one end of each of my Tachyon ropes. It's nice to have the option of going retro-DdRT or to choke the rope. Most of the time the eye isn't used.

Or go midline attachable.

Ah, yes, one can dream of being midline attachable =), you UniPeople and RopeNutters! one day soon, no doubt, the options will be ever-expanding.

The rope nut is looking smooth, surveyor.

Or you modify your wrench with a 5/16 X1 inch quick release pin available at west marine or you local rope wrench dealer soon. $20. Easy and functional fix.

ah yes i had noted the rope wrench midline mod and am quite interested. I even looked up the west marine part! I may be placing an order with a rope wrench dealer quite soon!!
but was there some concern that having the quick release pin would make it harder to adjust the friction? I can't quite see how it would, but someone mentioned that in a previous thread.
I currently find myself in a situation where I am switching back and forth from a long tachyon to a short and a medium bit of aging arbormaster. that is the thing.

You lose a little on the way skinnier styles of rope but it is just about right for poison ivy tachyon, velocity, and the 16 strands.

Oh, ok - i get it. the quick release pin is just a little skinnier than what it replaces. my long hands won't ever climb any ropes skinner than tachyon, so I'm into the midline dream and the quick release pin.

so then what I am hearing on my question is:

don't be in a hurry to cut the spliced eyes off the end of my ropes - they may come in handy some day.
sounds very reasonable - thanks so far, all!

I like the quick release pin that Kevin mentioned but I think I'd still like to have an eye on one side. I like to have it incase I need to double crotch or use it sometimes to just tie off at the base if doing a quick/small tree. I'm still fairly new to SRT so maybe I will think differently down the road.

Nice work with the Rope Wrench Kevin! Works wonders over other set-ups! Thanks.

the link on your post was related to your session, I think, didn't go to a specific part.
