After getting these two pieces (ascender & spur-mount), one can also buy the foot strap assembly with base-plate which allows using the ascender without spikes. Just transfer the ascender from your spikes base-plate to your foot strap base-plate. The ascender can be removed (without tools) from your spikes so one only installs it when needed.
