Sold*Dmm Captain with 50' reep spliced $150

@swingdude; What was it about the DMM Captain that you found lacking, if you don't mind my asking? I think I've read you saying that you climb a lot of broad spreading trees; I would have thought the Captain would have been a real help to you.

Any feedback you care to give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Our trees are such that they can be navigated easily using redirects...when the occasion occurs that I have to work two leads far apart I just set multiple lines ...I climb a lot of stand alone trees the hook was just not cutting it....I dislike throwing shit in a tree also...just would never have used the damn thing....so much faster to use a steel biner on my tail and poles on with a hook to get across leads...I have a few tricks...but usually it is multiple lines set...the HAAS makes going up too easy

@swingdude; By "poles on with a hook" do you mean having a pole saw with a hook hanging from your harness, which pulls double duty as a line retriever by hooking your steel biner?

If so, what is your in-tree pole saw of choice? I've been thinking about getting a Silky Longboy folding pole saw, for it's minimal size compared to it's reach, but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks again, in advance.

I use two marvin poles with a special head for just advancing or setting a line...light and fast as fuck...hardly ever need them ...only call for it when necessary..do the deed then send back down...they also are used to pull roped branches away from onjects...no saw on them...never used a pole saw in tree ever...2 six foot poles plus hook plus me is 20 feet.....all I ever need.....

Kicking an old thread. Did you splice the rope? I'm getting ready to cut my seen eye off and splice mine. Finding the sewn tail end is hanging up on things.

I am gonna bring you a Jameson wire raiser hook for setting/retrieving ropes....WAY better!:)

I used to use a saw head minus the blade. Bought the wire raiser and after cutting 1.5" or so off top and bottom hook I like it. Think I bent the lower hook outward a little too.
Very handy tool. Just cumbersome using any poles while climbing.
