Sherril: should they alert us of recalls?

I have bought a few new tools from Sherril recently, Petzel ball lock caribiners and the ART Rope guide. BOTH these products are being recalled due to saftey issues, but I have not heard anything out of Sherril. Shouldn't they be the ones informing people of the recalls, since they are the ones who can track who bought these products? It makes me second guess any future purchase from them.... Thankfully, I found out on this site and one of the others about the recalls. If you do not already know, the ART Ropeguide pully (one of the models) and the newer metal sleeve petzel ball lock caribiners are being recalled. You can get more info on both manufactures web sites. The batch numbers on the recalled carabiners are numbers displayed from 06076 and 06178. You can locate these on the spine.

It's the responsibility of the manufacturer.
Let them have the expense of contacting the people that bought the items or compensate the retailer for contacting their customers.

When I go to target and other department stores, I sometimes see a bulletin board where they post recalled items they used to sell. It might be nice if there was a page on their website where one could see recalled items.

I don't think it is their responsibility. But it'd be nice

I bought a few Petzl carabiners from a local rock shop. A few days later the recall on the ball locks got around. Soon after the owner of the rock shop called me up to check and make sure which carabiners I had bought from him and to alert me about the recall. I agree with Nick. It's not the retailer's responsibility but it sure is nice when they care enough to let their customers know about potentially dangerous products.
