Sheriff\'s deputy Killed in Tree Trimming Accident

TROY, Mich. An Oakland County Sheriffs deputy killed in a tree trimming accident at his home.
I don't know if he had any climbing experience or the proper equipment.
It is reported he became entangled in his safety harness which pinned his neck against the tree trunk.
Sounds to me like he was only wearing a safety belt and the belt slid up pinning his neck to the tree.
No name released, a 57 year old man.

Re: Sheriff\'s deputy Killed in Tree Trimming Accident

This is such a shame.
Many people in our country
feel that they can " just do
it themselves " when a professional
should be used. This situation has touched
my own family. My first cousin was removing
a large birch by his cabin in northern Wisconsin.
The tree rotated on it's axis and landed on him.
Fortunately he wasn't killed, but his spine was severed.
His story of recovery and his WILL is a remarkable one.
You can google his name, it's worth the few minutes it
will take. His name is Jeff Pagels. He was born in my
home town, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Be careful out there.

Re: Sheriff\'s deputy Killed in Tree Trimming Accident

I was out on storm work last night and talked to a fireman who was one of the first on the scene. The fireman said that tree work was kind of a hobby for the deputy. How the fireman got this info I do not know.

they love to do that around here. they also have dropped the price on removals so low it almost not worth it.
