Anyone know why the Scottish Open is not happening this year?

I thought this event was getting stronger every year, Kelburn, Auchincruive, Perth North Inch and Edinburgh Botanic Gardens were all great venues.

Anyone know whats going on?

It'd be a damn shame if this event disappeared, especially for new young climbers coming through, I remember seeing Sam Robinson and Noddy Knot at Kelburn in the late 90s, it inspired me to think more about my climbing.

Was there a lack of interest?

Thanks

Thank you

Rumour has it half the comp committee resigned for some reason. Maybe this has had an impact on the Scot comp??? Judge will know.

you dont get listen to rumour do you? At the end of last season, sam was not well enough to stand as chair again and because of my other tcc rolls i also steped aside. its the major trouble with all tcc's across the world, it relys on a very small number of very very deadicated people, which is a shame when its our best vehicle for promoting our industry to our customers

Amen to that.

If you like TCCs, get involved and get your climbing friends involved.
Sorry to hear there isn't going to be a Scotland TCC this year though.

I never really thought the TCC was a great vehicle for promoting the industry, most passers by at the Scotland TCCs were bemused more than anything. What it is great for is encouraging new climbers to develop their skills and see just how far they can take climbing if they practice enough.

Sorry to hear that there are not enough interested people to organise this event, hopefully it will reappear next year. Funny thing is when it moved to the most prestigious arbor/horticultural site in Scotland(Edinburgh Botanic Gardens) I thought it had moved to a whole new level.

What was becoming very apparent about this particular event was the strange lack of Scottish or Scottish based climbers. Having worked with many great climbers here in Scotland I found it strange that hardly anyone would compete.

I competed 3 times, Kelburn, Auchincruive and Perth and I remember Sam Robinson winning at Auchincruive then going on to come 4th in the World in Baltimore. A truly great achievement.

When I went to the Botanics I was expecting to see more Scottish(based) climbers, but there was hardly any if I remember correctly. Even at an industry spectator event/meeting this is a problem as new climbers coming through are not getting the opportunity to see great climbers.

It seems to be endicative of a deeper problem regarding involvement in associations and organisations in Scotland's arb industry.

When it is run in Scotland again the marketing of the event to climbers needs to be better.

Ah of course Tim Craig, I remember you now. You were indeed competing in Perth in 2004. I think you came about 14th out of only about 18 or so climbers, it was a low turn out.

I'll have to trawl through my old photos and see what I can find.

I'm a big fan of Grover.

The Sesame Street character, that is.

Tim seems to me to be a very knowledgeable and pleasant journeyman/arborist.

But I still would vote for Grover for President.

14th!!! God damn it! thats good considering I had to leave after 3 events due family commitments, I think I did the work climb in about 7 mins.

My rescue was a total disaster, I was untangling my rope in the tree when the guys judging said, "that's enough! the guy died about 15 mins ago!"

Throwbag - I did ok in that, was 2nd after about 10 competitors had gone.

I entered to up the numbers of Scots in the lineup.

At 5.30 every competitor still had to do the footlock and workclimb! I couldn't hang on any longer, shame really I'm sure I would have won
