Anybody gave these new ropes a go yet? Curious about them. Treestuff has them on sale at the moment. Just got some new 11.7 Yale few weeks ago. Kinda tough to pass up a good price if it's as good as the Yale.

I've been using the Voyager for about a week and love it. Very supple, easy to splice, and runs ascenders and the rope wrench very well.

I would definitely recommend giving it a go.

I believe it's called Tangent.

What's with this Tangent name?

When Voyager first came out, I was impressed with how Samson handled branding for the "V-Series" with Velocity/Voyager/Vortex - similar ropes with similar construction - just different sizes. Color variations are hot/cool. Pretty easy to understand.

Compare with Yale... How many different names do they have for the same rope? Blue Moon, Poison Ivy, Actec, Luna, Sumac ...

Guessing that Tangent was a custom rebrand at sherrill's request? I wonder why - it seems to go against a lot of intentional branding work done by Samson.

Not sure about the new line, but I have been running Samson True-Blue 1/2" on my floating bridge, it has worked well enough but it started to fuzz after just a couple climbs. I would not recommend it for anything too abrasive like speed lining. Going to try something with a harder shell next.

We like the Voyager rope, and had Samson make us some in a hi-vis orange colorway. We're not renaming the rope; Tangent is just the name of the color. The blue green version is Voyager Cool, and the hi-vis orange version is Voyager Tangent.

I have a test version of Tangent. Dont know if it reflects the finished product or not My thoughts-

Has an excellent, soft feel. Knots really well. A little on the bouncy side, but not awful. Feels bigger than the listed size. Doesn't seem that tough. Picks easy with ascenders. RR runs through it very well. You can see this damn rope from space. I call it the space rope. I think it's about on par with Poison Ivy.

If I had to pick between it and Blue Moon though, Blue Moon beats the brakes off of Tangent.

I have the voyager cool. I don't know if I have just had a run of bad luck after I got this but, it does seem like it picks more easily than some of the others that I have owned.(poison ivy, tachyon, and blue tongue among others) I have had more trouble with it getting caught on my chainsaw teeth rather than ascender though. Overall I'd say it's a good rope. Feels good and it's strong.

Yale calls ALL of their treeclimbing ropes XTC.

They have XTC-12 (BUZZZ), XTC-16 (FIRE etc), XTC 24 (Bluemoon, Poison Ivy etc), XTC 48 (kernmaster), etc.

I learned something today.

Once I researched that it had a nylon core I decided to pass on it.
Samson double braid climbing lines have nylon cores. I'm still down for both vortex and velocity.

After climbing a little more on it, I do realize it is more bouncy than poison ivy and also the cover seems to be very spongy/separate from the core, like you can feel it separate which is kind of weird lol.

So far I still like it, but when I get another one just going back to poison ivy I think I just love the rope!!
