Roll up truck tarp - what's ideal width?

Location
Ithaca
To any one with experience using roll up tarps on trucks or trailers, what's the ideal width for the tarp? Same as inside of truck bed? Narrower? Wider?

My truck is about 90-½" inside.

I have a nice roll-rite tarp I could use, but I never mounted it because it's only 81-½" wide, and 8" less seems like too narrow. What do you think?

What are you covering?

We haul brush on a dump trailer a lot. I haven't done a roll-up tarp because sometimes we are stacked over the top and I want the tarp pulled over the sides.

I see trash trucks running on the highway with a tarp narrower than the truck and trash blowing out...not cool. But I guess point is they, apparently think narrower is OK. I'd think chips, soil and mulch would be fine narrower...or even B&B trees.

Purpose would be mostly to fulfill the tarp requirement for hauling garbage which I do occasionally, mostly my own. Might see if it works for ships in a pinch as well.

Tree materials inside the walls of a truck (logs, brush, chips etc) don't need any securement. At least in NY. Nor does "recycling."
