Road trip from Philly to New England

The wife and I are going for a road trip in Sept. No real plans, just heading up towards Maine. Maybe we go that far maybe not, just winging it as we go. You guys that live that direction or used to live up there should definitely shout out. Just looking for "Can't miss" scenery, food, cool little motels and so on. Thanks in advance.

Early September, not sure how far or how remote yet just starting to talk about it with the wife. I figured I would give you a call or stop by as I know that you have made this trip a few times in your life. Lol
