Raping the forest

I have a job I am bidding on for the clearing of land for a casino. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The work is happening 3 miles from the shop, so I feel the need to bid on it although generally I do not like to participate in that type of work. The good part is according to the plans, they are trying to work with the natural wetlands and such to avoid them and keep the construction to a minimum. All the excavator companies around here do a lot of clearing and I hate it. /forum/images/graemlins/9lame.gif The mess they make does make a lot of work for me though when the houses are built and the remaining trees need work. It is really tough because land clearing is such a huge money maker. Anyway, due to the job I am bidding I need to rent a whole tree chipper with a loader... a morbard mountaingoat, or bandit model. Does anyone know of a company that rents them in the midwest?

It seems like 90% of the US chippers are built in Michigan. They must have a distributor nearby or maybe rent from the manufacturer.

If you get the job you'll have the pride in knowing that your work will be done with the lowest possible impact on the remaining trees.

Are they going to setup tree protection zones for the remaining trees? If there is wetlands they will be mandated to put up silt fences and it seems like all of the contractors know that going over a silt fence can lead to bug fines. Get them to understand the same concept for trees too.

I've put up TPZs using 3/8" rebar woven through the holes in orange plastic fencing. A couple of nylon zip ties to hold the fence up and it is good to go.

Good tip on the fencing mtls Tom; much more tree friendly than fenceposts.

Yes if you have moral compunctions about land rape, check the local/county/state fed regulations and see that they are all enforced, whether or not you get the contract. Most agencies operate on the squeaky wheel system; if no one yells "Foul" they blithley (and fraudulently imo) assume there is no harm.
