Protos helmet issues

So we have been using Protos helmets for a couple months after switching from Kask. We like the helmets... However, some of my guys are having headaches after wearing them for several hours at a time. It seems to get worse as the week progresses. The problem seems to be from the earmuffs being too tight, and I have not seen a way to adjust them less as they are already set at 0.

Has anyone else had a issue with this, and if so, how do you resolve it? We installed the Cardos in them, and we love the communication. I really want to make it work, just dont know what to do.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I would start by adjusting the back plastic sliders out a bit to relieve some pressure after the tab is pushed to lock the helmet in place. That is where I’ve had the most discomfort. Getting that section dialed in is the most difficult for me, by once it is the head pressure disappears

Is there any way you send a pic explaining what you mean?

That would seem to be the band adjustment for your head, right? The trouble we are having is how tight the earmuffs are.

Okay. Interesting. I never had problems with them being too tight. However, I did switch mine to the 3M muffs on the special brackets.

Are you using Bluetooth comms? The protos muffs are so thin they don’t allow much room for the speaker and your ear.

Just throwing out everything I’ve dealt with on them, seeing if something sticks. If not, please disregard.

Yes we have the Cardos system.

I highly recommend buying the 3M adapter brackets and peltor muffs. Better noise protection, and roomier so the speaker doesn’t shove the foam into your ear all day. They still slide back, just a little tighter.

Are your guys wearing safety glasses?

I had to get the Protos glasses so my temples weren't under crazy pressure.

3m also makes a snap on safety glasses not sure if it'd work with the Protos though

Protos glasses are definitely a must to keep the pressure of the muffs from causing pain. They are a bit pricey, but worth it IMO.

There a lots of adjustment options for the headband as well. Height and circumference. I actually prefer letting the muffs hold my Protos in place more than the headband. Kinda like suspenders and a belt, maybe?

Man, once that helmet is dialed in it’s golden.

Takes a bit to get dialed in almost to the point of abandoning the whole setup. But once it’s dialed in, pure comfort.

The protos glasses are a must. Before I got them I found it painful to wear safety glasses and earmuffs. Leading to an either or decision.

Can’t even tell you how many things I almost abandoned that I wound up loving in the end!
