Protecting your head

So, you thought this was going to be about helmets I bet :)

Nope, I'm curious how Big Shot users protect the head. The last set of rubbers got nicked from knocking around in the back of my van. Now, I just make sure that the head is put off to the side. I know that some climbers put the head on top the lines in a bucket. Any other solutions?

I definitely (no 'A' in that word) suggest the head be placed inside something to protect it from chainsaws, handsaws, screwdrivers or whatever else might be wandering by. Just a small nick can be dangerous on surgical tubing under tension. I've used a plastic recycle bin, a cardboard box, a milk crate and a 5 gallon bucket. All work well, you just need to use whatever is handy and fits in your vehicle. If you think you don't need it and chance carrying your BS around unprotected, it will get cut by someone or something.

I'd suggest keeping it out of direct sunlight when storing it also. UV will break down the rubber and cause it to dry out and crack. Good news is replacement rubbers are cheap and easy to install.

Tom, I went to the extreme, I bought a Wells Cargo 10' covered trailer, outfitted it with racks, bench, and a heate. All my rigging, saws, tools, and most of all the bigshot has a holder high up out of reach of all the other tools. No more nicks.

I carry mine in the plastic "gun case" that Sherrill supplies with the full kit. It's sort of awkward, but very protective. That makes me think that some sort of hard sided case, like an old briefcase or suitcase, might do the trick for just the head, throw bags, etc.
