Proposed 2014 ITCC rule book

How do components or systems become 'approved'?

Is this done at gear check by the Tech Judge?

Read this:

2.2.25
For the purposes of clarity in
this rules document, the term “climbing hitch”
shall
include both traditional hitches tied with cordage (Prusik, Valdotain Tresse, etc.) as well
as
approved
mechanica
l hitches
(Lockjack, Spiderjack,etc)
.
All climbing hitches shall be
approved prior to being allowed for use in the competition.

What is meant by 'an in-line anchoring system'?

Can you give me an example?

2.2.30
Contestants may work from a static ascending line provided:

That when using an in-line configuration, engaged ascenders are not within the anchoring system.

Fall-protection anchoring systems must include an approved stopper knot, or hitch on the static ascending line no more than 18 inches (45 cm) below the anchoring system, unless the climbing system is directly connected to an approved knot in the access line. Techniques for working from a static line using an in-line anchor must be demonstrated prior to use and during gear inspection, and must have prior approval of the head technician.
(2014)

An Inline Anchor is set directly on an Ascent Line.
Lots of guys (at least here in EU) Anchor their climbing line to the Footlock Strop when they ascend at the Rescue Event.
A secret weapon would be another option.

Just beware that the ascent line isnt usable from the ground anymore, something I see as a big disadvantage with Inline Anchors.

hey guys,
proposed 2014 ITCC rules are currently open for public comment - deadline for comments and questions before the final rules committee mtg is april 11th. if you have read and digested the rules and have questions or comments, the place to submit them for consideration is here:
http://www.itcc-isa.com/rulesregulations/rules/submitchangerequest.aspx

final rules committee meeting to discuss feedback from the climbing community is april 14th.

just a note: many volunteers have worked long and hard to come up with the rules revisions for this year, laboring to take into account the evolution of climbing practices in the field as well as all data currently available on newer tools and techniques.

check it out.

So, SRWP is in! But not the Rope Wrench since it is not a "stand alone device"? Hmmm, that 2.2.20 is a big ol' can o' worms ain't it? It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

Oh, and I guess I have to stop chewing on my handsaw. I don't believe I have ever seen anyone do that, ever. But the rules are there to keep us safe so we have to comply - "Climber, please remove the handsaw from your mouth, first warning!"

I have seen the handsaw in the mouth at least twice !

stand alone might mean that does not require a back up device such as an asap, or buddy as in rope access. That is what I am figuring.
