A leaf pic would be most helpful, I’m not sure you can get anything more than guesses. So my guess is live oak.

Looks like beech to me which was actually a distant relative of the oak.

Sorry, I do not have any leaves. Hurricane Laura passed a good bit west of here, but knocked down many branches, and some trees. I picked this up from the side of the road. All they had at the road was pieces like this and bigger, no leaves or small branches. As long as it is a hardwood, I am good to go. I make my own lump charcoal.
As for my username, I got it from the same song that you are thinking of, but from the band The Traveling Wilburys, made up of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and E.L.O.'s Jeff Lynde. I had never heard of The Headstones before today, I learned something. Thanks for the reply.
