Position Available: Plant Production Aide
Classification: Seasonal (August – December)
Department: Collections and Facilities
General Summary: Assist the Manager of Plant Production and Growers in propagation, culture, and production of plants, and with the maintenance and development of the nurseries.
Job Qualifications
Previous Training and Experience
A strong interest in growing woody and perennial plants, and in learning cultural techniques used in greenhouse and nursery production is required. Previous horticultural work experience is not necessary.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Detail oriented person. Ability to operate equipment and tools used in nursery and greenhouse operations. Physical strength and stamina necessary to perform heavy tasks associated with nursery and greenhouse production.
Working Conditions
1. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions; also indoors, sometimes in hot greenhouse environments.
2. Requires significant amount of physical activity: carrying and lifting (up to 50lbs.), bending, climbing (up to 8'), standing or sitting for prolonged periods, walking and kneeling.
3. Must be able to work on occasional weekends and holidays, in rotation with other employees, to maintain plants in propagation.
