Petzl Swivel Open - strange behavior

I purchased a brand new "Swivel Open" some days ago. What I've noticed is that there was no gap between the rotating parts and it made some grinding noise during rotation by hand. After I pulled the two elements apart I heard a "clunk" and there was the expected gap of about 1-2 mm. Now if I press the two parts together then I hear again a "clunk" and the gap disappears like at the beginning. It's enough to push and pull by hand - no high force is necessary to create the "clunk".

Can another "Swivel Open" owner please check wether this behavior is normal?

At the moment I'm scared to climb with it.

Hi Howie,

I don't know what to tell you. I took a new one off the shelf and if I push it together there is a grinding feel. Pulling it apart as it would be in use, the grinding disappears and it rotates freely. I don't hear a clunk when pulling, just feel the bearing get tight as it seats, but a small gap opens as the play is removed.

Thank you Mark. Up to this point the behavior of my swivel is the same. And if I hold it between my palms and interlace my fingers then I can create this "clunk". And then I have the grinding always like as it was shipped to me. Maybe you can test if this is the same for the one off the shelf.
