OT-Browser change

For quite a while I've been content using the anitquated Netscape 4.76. It's time to get updated and I found that NS has been absorbed by AOL. I don't want to get sucked into that mess again.

Now its time to look at what else might be available. Are there other players besides IE to use? I like MS products but they seem to become Borg-like after a while. They put their tendrils on everything and control more than I want to let them. Am I being too paranoid of Bill & Co.?

I heard some good things about Mozilla. Any opinions?

Thanks!

Tom,
You can use newer versions of NS without getting too AOL'ed, but if you really want a new browser I suggest you check out Opera (www.opera.com). You can download for free or pay about 40 bux and lose the ads and stuff. I like it because it's a smaller program, loads faster, gets sites faster. Also, you can have multiple sites open all at once, either stacked, tiled, or cascaded (the same idea as when you use "new navigator window" option, but you have access to all of them at once without going to the windows toolbar. It's hard for a non-techie like me to explain, but now that I'm oriented I vastly prefer the opera method.

You can choose between a very small, non-java version or a somewhat larger (but still smaller than the big two) java version. If you get the non-java, you can't use buzzboard, you can't change personal preferences on the ISA site, and some other similar problems will arise as you wander around on the net. I keep netscape for certain apps, use opera non-java for the rest (I have an older version from before they offered java).

Never tried mozilla or any other alternative browser.
