Options on good mid-range to larger saws

How you like the Dolmars monkeylove?
I have had a few of the smaller Dolmars and they are all good saws.
3 climbing saws and a 421. Still have the 421 and I love it for limbing.
Parts became a problem in Canada once Makita bought them.

I have a makita-branded dolmar. Very workman-like, lots of cutting power. They are a little heavy for climbing, proportionately, compared to Stihl saws. Mine is out of service right now, and my ms661 is the current workhorse. I'd like to get the dolmar repaired because it feels and sounds great in the kerf. My local dolmar dealer is 45 minutes away...

I use the ms661 with a 25"? bar, and a ms201tc 16" bar. I keep a 36" bar and chain for the ms661 for leveling, but 90% of the felling and piecing out is done with the 25". Was in Tallahassee piecing out pines all month. Now the local trees seem small again!hahaha

I run 36” or 41/2” .404” on my 90cc stuff for that reason.

Nobody calls me for the little trees.

these were All in the +/-100' range - 50"+ trunks - locally its mostly Laurel and live oaks. if there's money to be made, chances are I'll be on site.

Once you get them started they cut nice. They don't have that distinctive "burp" so you can miss it and flood them while trying to start it. The one I got has the big bore kit on it but my Makita is the same way. Once you get used to it you know better but if you are also running Stihl's or Echo's sometimes you just forget to never leave the choke on for more than 2-3 pulls.
Interesting. .. never had that issue with my 5100s
