Onyx saddle chainsaw holder placement?

My one complaint about the Onyx (which they don’t make anymore) is the chainsaw holder placement is too far behind me and difficult to reach. Especially the more winter layers I put on, the further behind me it is.

Anybody else climbing on the Onyx (monkey beaver might have a similar set up?) and what tool are you using for chainsaw storage? I also use the echo battery saw mostly for pruning and I think the location of the hanger also makes it difficult being high up on the back of the saw.

I think a different/larger accessory than the shimbiner might help. I’m looking at the large petzl caritool maybe would be better?

I use a XL Shem in the same slot (opposite side though) with no issues.

I'm not familiar with the echo battery saw setup. Where is the racking ring located?

I climb with the onyx still. I’ve used the petzl caritools forever (with no issue). I don’t use the stock ring on my saws though. I had a local leather shop make a short lanyard with a ring. Much easier to grab and hang saw on saddle again.

I climbed on an onyx for a few years, had a big paddle carabiner and then the rock exotica transporter when it came out.

My only gripe about the saddle was concerning the "saw hanger". A bigger saw would roll that carabiner down into a pressure point on my hip and give me a dead leg at the end of a long day. The extra stiffness of the monkey beaver back pad solved the issue.

If I remember correctly the onyx had around the same position for a saw biner as the mb, around 3:30-4:00 in my case.

I climb with an onyx and have 2 RE transporters in the same loops you do. Sometimes it’s a reach, but it also keeps my elbows from smacking it.

Trying girth hitching your landyard around the handle of the saw, just below the throttle. It seems to eliminate some of the twisting and reaching when racking your saw. This puts the muffler of a top handle a little closer to your saddle at times, but this obviously isnt an issue with your echo.

I have the same exact setup as you. Best saddle I've had
