new tcc event MN chapter

We'll work it out, Matt. We have one hour slotted for the Open Ascent Event. I definitely need more volunteers to setup, time, and judge!

Just so everyone knows; this isn't part of the actual TCC... It's an exhibition to kill time while they tally the prelim scores.

See you all there!

This was done at Charlotte. It was very popular.

Climbers could choose their ascent system. Most were on SRT.

Kristian and his team did a stand-up job! Get hold of him to get the details of how they ran things.

Let's hope that sooner rather than later the Open Ascent event will replace the Footlock in ISA events.

I'm super pleased that my new home and original home are the first places where this event has gotten the spotlight!

Oh yeah and huge thanks to Tay, George n Lynn, all the awesome volunteers and sponsors DMM, NER, and the Teuf! It feels a little like making history. Kinda neat.

Just curious...was the event ever "open" in the past, like in the early days? How did it become what it is currently? Ive been involved in tcc's since ITCC mpls 2006 and what we have currently is all I've ever known. That was the first time I ever saw SRT Ronnie Epple rocked out the masters accent with a frog walker of some sort and it blew every ones mind! It was very eye opening.

Footlock and Speed climb are the two events. Years ago there was no tether attachment in SRT. Scary...injuries!

Since footlocking is being replaced by SRT configurations in the real workaday world it makes sense to evolve. It will likely take the ISA TCC years to change their events. Its great to have the boots in the field take the time and effort to have events like this.

No disrespect to the "boots" but making things more complicated can cause evolution to be a bad thing. The thought that SRT will be the way is up in the air. This event is a fun idea that is ment to be a learning activity. There are quite a few draw backs to always climbing on SRT along with some pro's. Lets have a fun and safe after prelim evet.

I'd be there in about 3 hours...if someone bought me a plane ticket ;) Right now I don't have enough dimes to cover the flight.

Can you list what you mean by 'quite a few draw backs to always climbing SRT...'? In the last 6-7 years I've only climbed DdRT maybe 5-6 times...and the total vertical distance of those climbs would not exceed 300'. If I climb DdRT I have to really focus my mind because the muscle memory and routines just aren't natural anymore for me.
