New rope runner ???

the spring doesnt do anything to keep you from sliding. it creates co tact with the rope and after that mechanics takes over. the rope may be new, going up and down over the same area numerous times can flatten that spot. adjust the bollards on the bird tighter mm by mm. dont get it too tight or you'll have drag and a tough release. I prefer as wide open as possible without sliding. the 11.7 are pretty soft and can flatten out. if they are newer they can be slick.
Had a chance to play with the RR this weekend and adjusted the bollard a bit, still slipped a little so I adjusted and tinkered until I could weight it with no slippage or creep. I thought heck yes, and proceeded to the top of the big oak in the yard. Sat back in my system and unhooked my ct and homemade saka and no creep at all! Was totally content being perched up there like a big ole buzzard. Then it was time to descend so I reached for the bird to give it the down signal and that joker would not move! I mean it was tight! Sure didn’t feel that tight while I was making the adjustments. Dang near had to use two hands to get her to release. It was very hard on the hands pulling down on the device. So I made a few more adjustments and found a happy medium between the creep and release.
Also discovered that the little Petzl rubber caribener keepers fit the end of the bird tips perfectly and act like little pillows under thumb and index finger! Think I just need a new climbing rope! Any ideas as to what would be best?
I read a thread that mentioned that the 11.7mm ropes worked well and thought the Blue moon was 11.7. Maybe I need a static 11.7?

Mine is in the process of being dialed in also. I have noticed the ware on my lower parts are more then the bird. Very minimal ware by the way. I am thinking that there should be a happy medium between the two. Adjusting to my sweet spot!

No, you get the right stuff.
I have had the exact same issue. Dialing it in so that my (well worn) runner works well on my yale poly/poly 11.7 (I think it was better on kernmaster) was difficult enough that I gave up.

You gave up? I'm hoping I don't get to that point. I think I am very close but just not there. I would love to find a spot where I could get this thing to act like my ZigZag on DDRT. Perhaps wishful thinking but the way others rave about this device I do believe the perfect or near perfect spot is attainable. Maybe on the Kernmaster you mentioned!

I just run it on my tachyon. They require different adjustments. It runs wide open on it, even though it is a squishy rope.

When I first put the RR on my Blue moon, had the bollard wide open and it seemed good for the first few up and downs. Then it flattened out and wouldn't grab at all. Started adjusting on the bollard and its getting better. Will keep tinkering but honestly I am finding it a PITA adjusting the bollard on this device. One side always seems to end up higher than the other when you tighten it back up. Tempted to put a thin washer on each side.

Mine is perfect on the blue moon variants.
For a new runner, go just a mm or two from wide open and bomb out a few times to wear in the bollards, then open it up all the way. This works for my weight, and has worked for a few other folks as well.
Also consider milking the rope a few times and it will stay rounder. Had to do this with the last hank I got

My runner is fairly new. No noticeable wear on the bollards and just starting to see the color changing on the lower friction plate. I don't get to use it everyday but am determined to make it work! Any suggestions for effectively milking the entire length of rope? Tight hitch on one end and work the length through several times maybe?
Thanks for the help!!

I forget about milking! Tachyon doesn't milk, but when I decided to try a tech 11 climbing line it was imperative that you milk the slack out.

I start with a gloved hand, then throw your saddle on and tie a loose hitch that you can lean into and it slides and just walk backwards. Once or twice should do it.
I did as you recommended and milked the rope. I was surprised to see that about 6 inches of cover slide off the end. First pass got most of it, made a couple more and it totally changed the feel of the rope. Can’t wait to get in the tree and see what change it will have. Thanks for the help!
