New device from buckingham

That would be a welcome departure from Buck's usual 200% markup. I love their products, but I can rarely justify their cost.
Their prices are crazy, yes; however, I learned last year why their prices are so high. Everything that comes out of their facilities passes through AT LEAST six sets of hands for inspection. They are stringent on inspection and correction. Their in-house tour is eye-opening. The Buckingham price difference is quality assurance difference. It's also the Made in the USA price difference. There are guys who have been working there their entire career, some for over 30 years. Buck prices pay their bills.

I know most of us are going to spring for more affordable- that includes me, but Buckingham prices are money well spent. Not to mention, their bags are decade+ investments. Insanely durable.

I hope to be ready for the new device when it comes out. It looks like a robust, plug and play option.

Kevin, do you feel like a proud grandpa with another offspring of the rope runner?

companion vid

rope pinch at bottom, neat shoe type bollards on the upper RW/bird
might have the no-pulley extra tending friction with the stationary bollard to tend the tail over

Not that I disagree with any of that... but I'd also add, they gotta pay for all the advertising as well. Obviously a part of any business, but they seem more aggressive in that regard, which costs a lot of money.

Interesting, can’t say I’ve noticed theirs more any other brands. Where do you see them aggressively marketing? Not disagreeing, just curious.

Bump for the thread.

I find this device intriguing. It may bridge the gap between a ZZ and an Akimbo?
I'll definitely wait for more user feedback. "Wait" is a loose term here. I may never jump on this wagon.

I hope to get one quickly. This will be the first mechanical I will buy within the first year of release. I bought my first zz in 2018, and my rrp was a gift around a year after release. No akimbo or art jacks. I’m sure others will report back faster, but I’ll try to give feedback once I’ve given it a solid run. I believe it takes 3 weeks of use to have a decent idea about something, and 3 months to really know what I’m taking about.

Slightly newer vid showing it in action. Curious how it'll run with sap, given the similarities to the Akimbo. Fully replaceable wear parts is a bonus. Less adjustability than the Akimbo it seems, since only the bottom bollard is adjustable on the Buckingham. The design that releases in April is supposed to have a little less friction than the one shown in this video. At 22:19 you can really see the amount of friction the climber has to overcome while tending DRT. To me, it looks like a bulkier Akimbo with less adjustability but with the addition of an upper attachment point. I'll be interested to hear feedback from those who try it.

I suspect it will not handle sap well because of the long contacts both top and bottom. The attach points are nice as long as they do not affect the movement of the arms over time.

ZZ is great but not midline attachable. That's surely one part of the gap. Idk, I've tried just about everything and keep coming back to the Akimbo. Suits my style very well once you find a rope to match..
What rope matches for you. (I feel similarly about the Akimbo.) The Hitch Hiker is great, the BDBone is fantastic...

What is the gap, in your mind, between the ZZ and Akimbo?
Love the ZZ in action. My preferred mechanical for not being overly finicky with ropes, like the Akimbo can be. Thee ZZ doesn't need to be dialed in. It works great within it's range of ropes. I dislike it not being midline attachable, like the Akimbo is. I use mechanicals mostly in crane work and like user friendliness of the ZZ for MRS. I prefer my working end spliced eye attached to the mechanical device and not on the bridge.

The Throttle seems to bridge all those issues from the little feedback given so far.
