ms 880 seizure

so the groundy did not mix the oil and gas and filled my saw with straight gas yesterday..i began my cut on the stump and the engine froze on me..what to do what to do i was pissed to say the least...i took it home that night and pulled the spark plug and put straight premix in the cyclinder and let it sit overnight. pulled the pull cord ever so gently, dumped the rest of the premix out through the sparkplug hole and made a mix of 32:1 gas oil and cut a 6ft diameter stump today.......and thats how you fix a engine seizure without paying a fortune to your local dealer......

I think I would have at least removed the cylinder and cleaned up the aluminum transfer off the piston and cyl and put a new set of rings in it. Then flushed the crankcase out of any metal particles that may have gotten into those crank bearings. Still cheap and no cost except for rings if needed and a hour or less time.

Im with Treetrim, you may have just cost yourself a bottom end too, and a new saw, where you would have been out a couple hundo for a top end.

Top ends are easy, you could do one in under an hour right on your kitchen table with the simple tools that come with your new saw when you buy it from Stihl. Save for a small socket to take the carb off.

still working great, i've made base cuts on 17 cottonwoods that were 4ft to 9ft diameter. not to mention about 60 cuts on the logs..the whole point of this was for a person who runs accross the same problem it can be fixed in the field and not to automatically run to the local dealer and spend a fortune...

Pull the muffler off and check if the rings are siezed . They should flex slighty, pull the pug out and shine a flashlight into the plug hole and you should be able to see what kind of damage you have done to your piston and cylinder.
