The red weaver throwline bag has some kinda attempt @ "struts" inna sides - well, they are garbage. don't BOTHER, ya know? they sag, they're moosh-a-moosh... good god if they used something like the .040" poly i got from my old boss @ the sign shop, it coulda been a really effective strut. instead they a joke. i used to have rigid picture hanging wire formed into a circle & safety-pinned intudda top to keep it wide open, but cause the side struts are s__t it kept smashing down and tilting over as i was flaking the throwline back in. i think it is gonna B much better now.

the blue bag is just the cheapest throwaway POS, but i liked it cause it was a good shape for throwline. initially i had it propped open w/a coathanger held by safety pins lining the opening, but today i used a scrap piece of styrene left over from lining the weaver bag to shore it up and keep it open, and upright

the cube, well, we been over this already. yeah, U guys told me get the faltheimer cube, but hey! i already spent $60 on this thing, only to find itz a POS. so i ain't throwing it away in an act of defeat and submission. i made it useable w/a rigid inner liner of discarded lawn signs. i don't have a crew of 6 or 8. i ain't carrying 3-4-5 of these things, so i don't care if it no longer collapses for compact storage & to save space. i just want it to STAY OPEN when i'm flaking my line in

i could comment on how tired i am of stuff being made by A-holes who don't field test a mthrf__ng thing. i guess i just did

The cheap "store brand" cubes I have from Bartlett and Wesspur function perfectly for me. No problems so far.

I keep a backup throwline in a collapsible laundry hamper. It stays open and collapses flat, but the way it folds does not securely trap the line to prevent tangles. That doesn't matter to me though, as I don't collapse it because I keep a square of 1/4" plywood in the bottom to prevent it from tipping or blowing over. I'd use a cardboard box or a 5-gallon bucket over a bag or cube that won't stay open, though a bucket is a bit small IMHO.

If I were going to buy a hamper rather than using one I had, I might try one like this:

IIRC, I've seen arborist bags that are similarly constructed but much more costly.

The Gap Arborist brand rope bags are pretty nearly indestructible. They don’t stay open as well as some, but if you fold the top over the sides they’ll hold themselves open reasonably well. We use them though because you can run them over or throw them out of any tree you want and you’ll never break them.

well first of all, thx for turning me on to Gap Arborist! i mean, why limit my gear wh__ring sl_t tendencies to just 1 or 2 stores? Ha!

yeah there's actually a few on their page where the design looks simple and good. i remember looking @ the petzl one, and the edelrid awhile ago, but i think @ the time stock was out.

I always thought an old fashioned snap-open doctor's bag might make for good throwine storage, but the ones i did find, the people were asking a mint. and ya know it's online, so U have no way of knowing what the insides are like. it might it turn out to be a really BAD idea. for several hundred dollars. so I'll work w/these for awhile and see. the styrene is pretty rigid and fits GOOTnTITE all a way tudda bottom, which is important cause obv U don't want the throwline pinching down there.

the whole thing w/really good performing throwline storage, for me is, on THOSE DAYS where it takes more than a just few quick shots to hit yer crotch, tensions start to run high :ROFLMAO:.
so dealing w/a sh_tty system just is like an add'l kick inna nuts, cause i'm already starting w/ the non-repeatable comments under my breath. a bag w/a wide opening that stays wide open, and that doesn't move or crush down is truly a time-saver, cause yer flaking that line in over and over, and ya can't go fast when you're being fought @ every turn

I do not mess around when it comes to throwline. Harrison rockets for main bags and notch for isolating and double bagging. Treezers cubes and falteimers. My 2 oldest falteimers are 9 years this month I think. All these get epoxy put on corners that sit on the ground which helps so holes do not form from especially concrete. Dynaglide only for throwline.

I have a couple of cubes with boot repair goo reinforced corners but now default to carrying around Falter Throw Line Cubes by Edelrid. They fold nicely and really have held up.
Also fun watching folks who’ve never used em try and fold and twist them up (felt pen arrows notwithstanding)! Cheers

JD9 spray guns, despite being the standard for a lot of PHC work, are complete trash in my opinion. So are the FMC 2 hand ones (forgot model) for same reasons. Some minor changes could be made to fix to make them great and it’s beyond me why they don’t. Main one being why the f**** is the second nut to back up the first not a locking nut?!

Report: I've been out and about using my cheap-azz throwline stuff after the mods i made and i'm happy 2 say itz all working out great. No snags, no BS - just a coupla bags and a cube that now stay open, and upright. I don't like to throw stuff out, if it can be re-porpoised.
Wanna see my carboard box collection?

Why are there no dolphin emoji's? LOL

(Disclaimer - this last emoji serves no purpose. He has flown under cursor-radar and i am unable to select/delete. so here he remains.) The Symbol Remains, LOL!
