Momentum Solar Contacting Tree Companies?

Twice now I’ve gotten emails from someone claiming to be from Momentum Solar based in NJ (I’m in MA) stating that they have a customer who needs trees removed for their solar project, and to please provide a quote.

They have an address and contact info for someone who I would guess it supposed to be the client.

There’s a professional signature and everything in the email that makes it seem like a legitimate thing.

I was wondering if anyone ever encountered this? Why not just call me directly?

The first email I got I had turned away, was skeptical and not sure about it. I wrote a response saying I do not provide large tree removal or stump grinding services and the person didn’t respond back.

That does sound a little sketchy, but you could respond asking them to give you a call to discuss the project, see what they say. Some companies from this area do work up your way, I know a number of pole barn companies and swing set companies who do a lot of work in MA.

When I was a city forester, I would get tree removal applications from a few solar companies way out of town and it would be with a local tree removal company. It was always almost too formal, but legit nonetheless. I wouldn't dismiss it as a scam too quickly.

I’ve gotten emails like that as well, not from that same company but the same situation. It’s not really my side of Arboriculture so I just delete or let them know I’m not interested. The more aggravating emails are from aggressive recruiters. Out west they are looking for anyone with certifications or qualifications to do utility line clearance work.
