Iam in the market for a mini after kicking around for a year and am trying to make an educated purchase on a grapple, which is best I have only used the Vermeer and wondered if there was a better choice?thanks anyone with some input

I have a Versatech grapple bucket. It is not something I would recommend over a dedicated grapple, but it is certainly useful.

Ryans.......

Don is a SUPER cool guy.

I bought his very first 72" when I had my t300.

There was a bad design that he had not put gussets in the "push bar".

It was fine for pushing trees and logs, but I had hooked the which hook on it and accidently hit the winch switch.

The winches are super powerful and crumpled the preformed bend. (which btw now come with gussetts so the problem is solved).

I didn't really care because I didn't use the push bar anyway.

I called Don to let him know about the issue.

The point of the whole story is that 2 weeks later I got a knock on the door.

A delivery truck was unloading a pallet with a brand new (gussetted) push bar!

THAT is standing behind your product!

Don is a really cool guy and his grapples are SUPER strong.

I shot and edited their promo video. So the grapple I am mentioning is the one in this video.

I am in the market for a mini as well.

I have owned a BMG and they do a good job (albeit no rotator). But there is just something that I like the Ryan's that will make me pay the extra dough.

I have the Vermeer grapple on my s650tx, and love it, I used a BMG a few times on my buddies not bad but the Vermeer one I preferred over it. Very well built and is very versatile. I've had it since July and no complaints. What mini you guys buying?

I went with the bmg.

I've never used the Ryan grapple, so I can't comment on that one.

I used the vermeer grapple once, in a tight area. Though it worked decently well, I had a few concerns. To drag out the brush we had make multiple turns, and not having the 360 swivel, it would bind up. The other concern was how it hooked up the the machine. The arms almost have to be half way up, while holding the logs/branches, parallel and just off the ground. So this severely limits your lifting height Imo. I did like the lock out for the grapple though.

The overall multi functionality of the bmg, is what sold me. Having the built in porta wrap, is awesome. The attachments that are available for it, make it even more versatile. Though I wasn't convinced the scoops and rake were worth it, I went ahead and got them. The scoops are great for small stumps, and rakings (on big properties, or if just throwing them into a trailer). On larger stumps, I tend to still use a mulch bucket. Mostly because the scoops don't dig into packed grindings well. The rake does work well, to push together brush and small/big debris, on pavement. On lawns you have to be careful with the rake, it does work though. If the lawn isn't well rooted, or is thin, it rips it up. Also the rake does a great job clearing snow off of driveways and sidewalks. There is only a little coating of snow left on it...and it doesn't destroy the grass if you over shoot. The hitch is the only attachment I don't like...to weak for using on heavy trailers/chipper Imo.

Our Vermeer s800tx is 5 days old and we have a Ryan grapple on the way! If i remember correctly Vermeer's grapple was around $2700, i think Ryan was almost double that. In our neck of the woods and for what we will use it for the most, being able to rotate the grapple hydraulically was a must.

Get in contact with your local Vermeer dealer (if your going with or considering Vermeer) and set up a demo. They let us a demo the 800 and the 650(not at same time) and brought the 800 to the job site. Told us to call him when we were done playing with it :)ill let you know what we think of the ryan grapple and how we like our mini. Let me know if you would like exact prices, the boss might share those. good luck either way
